Interview: Jared Brummer on Citrix Certification

Solutions Architect Jared Brummer has earned an impressive list of IT certifications. We wanted to know the how and why, stuff and he was willing to share.

After 14 years in various IT jobs, Jared Brummer has worked his way up to a Solution Architect position with World Wide Technology, Inc. (WWT). He considers himself fortunate to work for the #50 company on Fortune magazine’s list of the 100 Best Companies to Work For.

One of the ways that WWT takes care of its employees is seeing to it that they are well trained and certified in various technology areas. Brummer says he never lacks for training and the company pays for his certifications. He feels it’s a policy that pays off for the company as well as for the employees, because WWT is able to put very knowledgeable people in front of its customers.

We recently tracked down Jared to interview him about his experience compiling such an impressive list of Citrix credentials.

GoCertify: It’s obvious from your progression of certifications that you’re putting an emphasis on building your knowledge of Citrix enterprise solutions. Why did you decide to focus on that?

Jared Brummer: As a Solutions Architect, it’s important for me to stay up-to-date on the latest technologies and to understand them thoroughly. Citrix is one of the key virtualization vendors at WWT, and ensuring we have staff members who are experienced in the Citrix solutions is important to maintaining the partnership.

GoCertify: What drove you to earn the Citrix Certified Enterprise Engineer (CCEE) for Virtualization certification?

Jared Brummer: I originally pursued the Citrix Certified Enterprise Administrator (CCEA) on MetaFrame XP, the predecessor to the CCEE, to demonstrate to my employer at the time that I had developed the skills to move into a System Engineer role. That worked, and I’ve kept it current ever since.

GoCertify: How does being a CCEE benefit you in your day-to-day activities?

Jared Brummer: The CCEE is a great way to show to yourself and others that you have the knowledge and experience over a wide range of Citrix products and are able to deploy and support enterprise Citrix environments. When I’m interacting with or interviewing someone with a CCEE, I’ve got an immediate basis for what their skills should be and can dive much deeper into a problem or conversation.

GoCertify: You’ve also attained the Citrix Certified Integration Architect (CCIA) certification - quite an impressive accomplishment. How has it benefitted you?

Jared Brummer: Achieving CCIA certification requires thorough knowledge of the entire Citrix suite combined with real-world knowledge. As an architect-level certification, it shows that I know how to design the solution that is right for a specific customer environment- not just follow an install guide or maintain the system.
